Do We Know What Revival Is?

Brian Edwards, in his book, Revival! A People Saturated with God writes that there are two or three generations that know nothing about revival. Edwards goes on and says that fewer the people there are to know and talk about revival, the less likely it may occur.

However, he writes, we must not forget that true revival is always the work of a sovereign God.

Let us work hard in prayer that fire from heaven will come to our churches.

When it rains, most people go inside to avoid getting wet e.g. shout dance and everyone will be happy
Just as a physical drought teaches us there is no substitute for rain, a time of spiritual dryness burns into us the truth that we cannot live without God’s renewing spirit.
The Hymn writer Daniel Whittle expressed his longing for spiritual revival in these words
“Showers of blessing, showers of blessing we need, mercy drops are falling, but for the showers we plead”
During time of spiritual dryness when we long for a sense of the presence and the power of God, we echo the Psalmist prayer- Psalm 85:6-7
The spiritual refreshing we crave comes from above. Christ alone can satisfy our spiritual thirst with the ‘living water’ He promised to al who come to Him (John 4:14) “Only Christ the living water can quench our spiritual thirst”
