Do We Know What Revival Is?

Brian Edwards, in his book, Revival! A People Saturated with God writes that there are two or three generations that know nothing about revival. Edwards goes on and says that fewer the people there are to know and talk about revival, the less likely it may occur.

However, he writes, we must not forget that true revival is always the work of a sovereign God.

Let us work hard in prayer that fire from heaven will come to our churches.

Every Moment Counts

I am reading The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. This evening I read the following: "Every moment and every situation challenges us to action and to obedience" (pg. 78).

It does not matter what we are doing. What matters is that moment is lived for the glory of God.

I am back in Omaha

Good Morning:

I am back in Omaha after spending two weeks at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, MA. It was my final residency for my Doctor on Ministry of Degree. All that is left now is the completion of my thesis-project.

Prayer for Revival in Boston

Last Sunday, I attended church at Tremont Baptist Church. There has been worship services in this renovated theatre since the 1840's. People like S.D. Gordon, D.L. Moody, Billy Sunday and Billy Graham have preached in the church. Charles Dickens and Abraham Lincoln have both addressed the church.

After the service this past Sunday, a lady there told me that every Wednesday at noon, people gather to pray for revival. Three people began this prayer time, and the number has increased to around 80. These are people from the area who long to see God pour out his Spirit.

80 people are praying every Wednesday that God will send revival to the Boston churches. This is an awesome first step to experience revival. Let's pray for Tremont Baptist Church; and let's pray that other prayer gatherings will be formed throughout our nation.

Have a great day,

The Cost of Discipleship

Good Morning. Here is another quote from the past to remind us that following Jesus requires our entire being. It is the well-known quote from Dietrich Bonhoeffer taken from his book "The Cost of Discipleship"...

"When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die!"

Have a wonderful day. Let us love Jesus with all that we have.

A Great Quote About Reaching People

Daily, I receive, through e-mail, a Christian quote. Below, is today's quote. As you read it, notice how the emphasis is placed on the Christians within the local church...

"The tremendous power of mass-suggestion, which we call the
world, can only be confronted, and its victims cured, if they
are received into a body which is filled with a vivid,
vigorous, and conscious community life of the Spirit.
Individuals are powerless to cope with a power so subtle and
all-pervasive as this mass-suggestion is. If we are to save
and rescue sinners, there must grow up in our Church a Spirit
of Love and Brotherhood, a Christian community-life,
transcending class and national distinctions, as pungent, as
powerful, as impossible to escape as the Spirit of the world.
No Apostolic Succession, no Ecclesiastical correctness, no
rigidity of orthodox doctrine, can be themselves and in
themselves give us this; it comes, and can only come, from a
clearer vision of the Christ, a more complete surrender to His
call and to the bearing of His Cross."

I Am In Boston

I am in Boston, MA until March 17. This is my third two-week residency for my Doctor of Ministry degree. I am working on the track, "The Preacher & the Message" under the direction of Dr. Haddon Robinson.

Today in class, Dr. Robinson said: “It is amazing how much you can learn from the Bible if you just read it!”

That is pretty good advice. Becoming saturated with God's word will prepare us for the coming revival.

Have a good evening
